Built on Reality. Designed for Confident Action.
Cloud optimization only works when the numbers are right and the recommendations are safe to execute. Too often, teams are forced to choose between theoretical savings and operational risk, leading to hesitation, overcommitment, or inaction.
Surveil v4.3.0 is about removing that tension.
This release sharpens two of the most critical Azure optimization decisions enterprises face: long-term Savings Plan commitments and virtual machine right-sizing. Both are high-impact. Both are easy to get wrong. And both demand precision grounded in real-world usage, not assumptions.
With v4.3.0, Surveil raises the bar by anchoring optimization decisions in actual performance data, accurate discount structures, and workload-specific constraints. The result is financial intelligence that teams can trust, recommendations engineers are willing to execute, and savings that hold up over time and not just on paper.
Surveil for Azure
Savings Plan Recommendations: Accurate 1-Year and 3-Year Commitments
Built on real usage. Calculated to prevent risk.
Azure Savings Plans can unlock meaningful savings, but they also introduce long-term financial risk when commitments are calculated incorrectly. A common pitfall across the industry is using 1-year commitment logic to size 3-year plans — a shortcut that can quietly lead to over-commitment and budget overruns.
Surveil v4.3.0 eliminates that risk.
What’s new:
Surveil’s recommendation engine now calculates separate hourly commitment values for both 1-year and 3-year Savings Plans, accurately reflecting each term’s discount structure.
Each recommendation includes:
- Correct hourly commitment rates per term
- Savings percentages for 1-year vs. 3-year options
- Total projected savings for each commitment horizon
This backend enhancement ensures upcoming decision workflows and visualizations are built on accurate financial logic from the start.
Why it matters:
Enterprises can now evaluate short- and long-term Savings Plans with confidence in choosing the right commitment length without risking financial overreach. Finance teams gain defensible numbers. FinOps teams avoid over-commitment. Leadership gets clarity on long-term impact before locking in spend. This turns Savings Plans from a guessing game into a strategic financial decision.
VM Right-Sizing: Intelligent Optimization Based on Real Performance Data
No averages. No assumptions. No unsafe recommendations.
Right-sizing virtual machines is one of the most common optimization opportunities and one of the most dangerous when executed poorly. Generic rightsizing engines often ignore workload nuance, performance risk, and configuration constraints, creating hesitation and stalled action..
Surveil v4.3.0 changes that.
What’s new:
Surveil now delivers a comprehensive VM right-sizing engine that evaluates each virtual machine using 30 days of actual Azure Monitor data at 1-minute granularity.
The engine analyzes:
- P95 CPU utilization
- P5 available memory
- Configurable performance buffers (20% default)
It validates compatibility against all Azure SKUs within the same region, including:
- Disk and network interface requirements
- OS type and Hyper-V generation
- CPU architecture
- Premium IO, accelerated networking, RDMA, and ephemeral OS support
- Subscription quota availability
Only SKUs that are fully compatible, lower cost, and safer to run are recommended. Each recommendation includes clear monthly and annual savings projections.
VM scale sets are intentionally excluded to maintain precision and avoid broad assumptions.
Why it matters:
This is rightsizing without regret. Teams reduce compute spend while preserving stability, performance, and architectural integrity. Recommendations are explainable, defensible, and grounded in real workload behavior — not industry benchmarks or provider averages. The result is higher adoption, fewer rejected recommendations, and optimization that actually gets executed.
Azure Recommendations Planner: Sharper Controls, Stronger Accountability
Turning insight into structured execution.
Identifying savings is only half the battle. Enterprises struggle not because they lack recommendations, but because execution breaks down. Workflow friction, unclear ownership, inconsistent filtering, and limited auditability stall action.
v4.3.0 strengthens the Azure Recommendations Planner with usability enhancements and governance controls designed to improve execution velocity without sacrificing oversight.
What’s new:
Smarter Filtering & Context
- Smart Tag filtering added at the summary level and cascades across all sub-screens
- Improved time-based filtering for aged and all-time recommendations
- Category-specific filtering for actioned items
Stronger Accountability
- Mandatory comments required when snoozing recommendations beyond 7 days
- Enhanced Achieved card toggle between:
- Actioned Recommendations (ITSM-raised)
- Realised Savings (validated in Savings Tracker)
Clearer Data & Flexible Analysis
- Hidden column configuration for cleaner screens while maintaining full export detail
- Monthly and annual savings view toggles
Role-Based Visibility
- Persona-based recommendation category controls ensure the right teams see the right optimization types
Stability & Integration Fixes
- ITSM activity date and currency corrections
- Field placement refinements
- Cleaner interface with clarified functionality
Why it matters:
Execution improves when workflows are clear and ownership is visible.
Business units can filter recommendations aligned to their structure. Deferred decisions now carry documented reasoning. Leaders gain better visibility into what has been actioned versus what has been realized. ITSM workflows are cleaner and more reliable.
This is not just a UI refresh — it’s an execution refinement. Recommendations move faster, accountability strengthens, and optimization becomes a managed program rather than a backlog.
The Bigger Picture
v4.3.0 reinforces a core Surveil principle: optimization only works when it’s built on reality.
Real usage data. Real discount structures. Real accountability.
By grounding recommendations in operational truth and strengthening execution workflows, Surveil gives enterprises the confidence to act and not just analyze.
